Allen & Overy energy and projects partner Gareth Price has been elected as the firm's next managing partner.

He beat three other partners to the role: Hong Kong managing partner Vicki Liu, global litigation head Karen Seward and global corporate co-head Dirk Meeus.

Price currently leads A&O's projects and energy groups, roles he has held for eight years.

He joined A&O in 1994 and was promoted to partner in 2003. Since then he has advised on a raft of energy and projects related deals, including advising on the takeover of Liverpool Football Club by U.S. investors in 2007, and the sale of E.ON and RWE's U.K. joint venture, Horizon Nuclear Power, for £696 million to Japan's Hitachi.

Price said in a statement: "I am very grateful for the support of the partnership in being elected to this role. A&O has always been a place of innovation and entrepreneurship and I look forward to working closely with Wim as senior partner to ensure the firm continues to flourish and push the boundaries in legal service delivery as a global elite law firm."

Wim Dejonghe won a second term in the senior partner role earlier this week. He beat the firm's banking co-head Phillip Bowden for the position.
