Dixons Carphone has bucked the trend towards smaller legal panels by adding three new firms to its legal roster, as part of its second panel review since its 2014 merger.

The company's existing panel of 11 firms – which includes among others Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, DLA Piper, Addleshaw Goddard, Fieldfisher and Pinsent Masons – has been retained, with three new firms added for a 14-strong panel.

DWF, Bristows, RPC and Northern Irish firm Carson MacDowell have all won places on the enlarged panel.

The new panel will be in place four four years to March 2024, following a review process led by general counsel (GC) and company secretary Nigel Paterson.

Paterson joined the firm as GC in April 2015 from BT, where he was GC for nearly two years.

According to Dixons Carphone, the review process began in November last year, and firms were assessed on a number of criteria including technical expertise, value for money, and understanding of the retail market.

The electronics company last reviewed its legal panel in 2016, two years after it completed the £3.6 billion merger of Dixons and The Carphone Warehouse.

The previous refresh saw Freshfields take on one of the lead corporate roles, while Linklaters, which advised Dixons on the 2014 merger, lost its place. Osborne Clarke also missed out on a spot in the previous review.

Dixons Carphone owns a number of household brands including Currys PC World, The Carphone Warehouse and iD Mobile.
