Macfarlanes has returned to its previous trend of smaller promotion rounds, making up just two partners in its latest set.

Female duo financial regulation lawyer Alexandra Green and tax and reward lawyer Alicia Thomas have both been promoted, effective next month.

Green trained and practised at CMS, and also previously acted as a senior counsel at HSBC prior to joining the firm. Thomas trained at Macfarlanes and has been with the firm for nearly a decade.

The latest partner promotion round is the firm's smallest since 2010, when it made up a single lawyer. It also follows a bumper round in 2019 where the firm made up nine new partners. In the two years prior to that, the firm made up three partners apiece.

Holman Fenwick Willan has also announced its latest promotional round. It has made up six lawyers across its global network, including two in London.

The new partners are: Paris-based aerospace lawyer Jean-Baptiste Charles; energy lawyer Jo Garland in Perth; commodities lawyer William Hold in Geneva; insurance lawyer Sheshe Taylor Evans in Houston; and London duo shipping lawyer Claire Womersley and aerospace lawyer Paul Woodley.

The latest additions are also a smaller affair than last year's bumper round, where a record nine lawyers joined the partnership.

Both firms also made legal director promotions. Macfarlanes added four across its corporate, investment management and tax & reward practices while HFW made up three in its shipping and insurance practices.
