Entries for the eighth African Legal Awards are now open, with top market players encouraged to submit nominations to be recognised as a leader in their field.

Law firms, in-house teams and alternative service providers have until May 29 to submit applications to be shortlisted across 26 categories including M&A Team of the Year, Environmental & Renewables Team of the Year, In-House Rising Star Award, and many more.

This year also marks the entrance of a new category, the Children's Advocate Award, supported by charity Save the Children, to reward law firms and in-house teams based in Sub-Saharan Africa which have carried out projects or put in place initiatives which enhance the lives and rights of children across the continent.

The ceremony will take place on September 4, 2020 at the Houghton Hotel in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Other coveted awards up for grabs include African Law Firm of the Year (Large Practice), which was taken home by local powerhouse Webber Wentzel last year for its efforts in promoting access to justice and pro bono and its excellence in key practices.

Meanwhile, Hogan Lovells was awarded the CSR, Diversity, Transformation and Economic Empowerment award, while Dentons, Baker McKenzie and Linklaters also took home prizes in 2019.
