UAE airline Emirates has appointed former Linklaters lawyer Shahreyar Nawabi as its senior vice president legal, compliance and privacy.

Nawabi has been at the airline since 2012, when he joined as vice president legal to manage the corporate and commercial global legal affairs of the company.

He was appointed as the group's data privacy officer six years later. According to a statement by the airline, his new expanded role reflects "the continually evolving complexities and requirements for legal compliance and risk management, including the proliferation of privacy regulation across the globe."

Prior to joining Emirates, Nawabi served as chief legal officer for the Investment Corporation of Dubai, the government entity which owns Emirates and a number of other energy, finance and real estate concerns, overseeing strategic investment and financial transactions, Emirates' statement added.

Nawabi was formerly a corporate managing associate at Linklaters at its Dubai office between 2006 and 2008.
