Ashurst has teamed up with Beijing-based law firm Guantao to deliver medical supplies to hospitals, medical teams and affected communities in China.

According to a LinkedIn post by the firm on Tuesday, the firm's Asia team has "sourced and delivered nearly 40,000 masks, 20,000 gloves, 10,000 surgical caps, 800 isolation gowns and other medical supplies".

The post continued: "As a global law firm with offices and clients throughout Asia, we're pleased to play our part in supporting those affected by coronavirus.

"Our thoughts go out to all those affected during this difficult time."

Ashurst began a non-exclusive strategic alliance with Chinese firm Guantao in 2008 and have worked closely together since then. In 2018, the two firms launched a joint operation office in the Shanghai Free Trade Zone.

Foreign firms are only allowed to give Chinese law advice through an association with a Chinese firm.

Last month, Clifford Chance announced on LinkedIn that it would be donating 1 million Chinese Yuan (£111,213) to "purchase urgent medical supplies for the China Resources & WISCO General Hospital in the city of Wuhan, the frontline of the coronavirus outbreak."

The firm has also recently taken a leading role on the first dim sum bonds to be issued intended to fight the spread of coronavirus.

Linklaters, King & Wood Mallesons and Chinese firm Junhe Law Office also took roles on the five-year bonds, which are worth 1.5 billion Chinese Yuan ($213 million).
