U.K.-listed law business DWF has hired a team of three information technology and telecommunications lawyers, including a partner from a local Australian firm.

Alex Ninis joins DWF's Melbourne office as a principal lawyer, the firm's equivalent of a partner, along with senior associate Marcus Hannah and solicitor Serpil Bilgic—all from mid-tier firm Macpherson Kelley.

"DWF's ability to attract specialist teams is testament to the appeal of our distinctive brand proposition in the competitive Australian market," managing director of DWF (Australia) Jamie McPherson said in a statement.

The team will help the firm expand its IT, privacy, data security, telecommunications and intellectual property practice, McPherson said.

Ninis' legal career spans more than 30 years and includes working in-house for Lend Lease Corp., Burns Philp & Co. Ltd. and PeopleSoft, and as a partner at Truman Hoyle (now Bird & Bird) and Blue Rock Law, which was acquired by Macpherson Kelley in 2014.

He represents global and local information technology suppliers and acquirers of information technology and telecommunications products and services, in the Asia Pacific region.

The DWF office in Melbourne has seen significant expansion since its launch in 2019, most recently with the senior appointments of principal lawyers Richard Skopal and Andrea Towson.

DWF's Australian practice now employs approximately 200 people.

Macpherson Kelly could not immediately be reached for comment.
