Top female lawyers were honoured at a new celebratory event in London on Wednesday, with industry leaders coming together to discuss the gendered issues they have faced throughout their careers, as well as to celebrate their achievements.
Hosted by Law.com International's news editor Rose Walker, the Women, Influence and Power In Law event brought together 70 attendees to recognise 28 women for their work in the industry.
Honourees included Karen Davies, partner and head of corporate at Ashurst; Natasha Harrison, managing partner at Boies Schiller Flexner; Caroline Griffin Pain, general counsel at Colt; and Denise Nurse, Vice President at Elevate.
The evening provided an opportunity for honourees to swap war-stories as well as reflect on their careers and discuss their hopes for the future of women in the industry.
Literal war-stories were provided by guest speaker Sergeant Major Susan Ridge CB, who trained as a solicitor before entering the army. She was director general of the army legal services branch for four years and the first woman to hold the rank of major general in the British Army. She spoke of her own time in a male-dominated industry, and recognised the importance of having senior women to look up to in any workplace.
The evening was held in association with First 100 Years, and the group heard from founder Dana Denis-Smith about the work the project continues to do about raising awareness of womens' history in the law.
