DLA Piper has hired a partner from a Paul Hastings in London to help replenish its U.K. restructuring practice.

David Manson, who focuses on distressed debt, restructuring, and special situations, joins from Paul Hastings where he had been a partner since 2017. He had previously been at White & Case for nearly 14 years and made partner in 2013.

Paul Hastings associate Philip Povey will also be making the move to DLA Piper, where he will be made senior associate.

DLA Piper's U.K. head of restructuring, Robert Russell, commented in a statement: "Our restructuring team competes at the top end of the market and David's expertise and synergy with our existing client offering make him a strong addition, deepening our global team of experts and our ability to support clients to respond to market challenges in these uncertain times.

"As we move into a new decade we are welcoming a number of new senior hires to our team as the practice goes from strength to strength, advising on a number of major deals for both longstanding and new clients."

DLA Piper's U.K. restructuring team has taken on several high-profile mandates in recent months, including advising on the administration process of U.K. department store Beales and womenswear retailer LK Bennett and the company voluntary agreement of restaurant chain Gourmet Burger Kitchen.

Manson's hire will replenish the restructuring ranks at DLA Piper following the exits of the firm's U.K. restructuring head Amy Jacks and former global restructuring co-head Michael Fiddy to Mayer Brown in May, as well as corporate restructuring partner Richard Obank and insolvency partner Colin Ashford's departures to Brown Rudnick in November.
