Dentons has hired two banking and finance partners in Amsterdam, underscoring the growing role of the city as a European fintech hub.

Arno Voerman and Pien Kerckhaert join the firm's banking and finance team. Both have experience in fintech and financial regulatory laws.

"Over the last couple of years, we have built a full-service banking and finance practice in the Netherlands," Marcel Janssen, head of Dentons' banking and finance practice in the Netherlands, said in a statement. "We now have a powerhouse team to address the growing needs of our clients."

Voerman was previously with Van Doorne, which he joined in 2002 and where he most recently co-led the finch and payments team. Voerman's work concentrates on payments, credit cards, e-money, consumer credit, cryptocurrencies and alternative finance. He also advised financial institutions, fintech companies and investors on market entry and on compliance and supervision, as well as the enforcement measures of the Dutch financial supervisors.

Kerckhaert joins from Finnius, where she was counsel. The financial regulatory lawyer advised financial institutions on securities law and financial supervision law, and a broader portfolio of clients on the application and impact of financial regulatory laws.

"I look forward to assisting international fintech clients that want to start their European operations in the Netherlands," Voermann said in a statement. "For fintechs, Amsterdam really is the place to be."

Kerckhaert said the regulatory landscape is rapidly changing and is subject to ongoing legislative developments. "In recent years, we have seen that new financial regulatory legislation is increasingly laid down in European regulations, leaving less room for deviations on a national level," she said.
