Deloitte Legal's managing partner for north and south Europe has stepped down after six months in the position, in order to "further his ambitions outside of Deloitte".

In a LinkedIn post on Monday, Amsterdam-based Meeter said he had "decided to step down from my role and leave Deloitte", adding that the news was not related to the coronavirus pandemic which has seen businesses take steps to ensure financial protection.

"Who knows what post-Corona has to offer", he added.

A Deloitte spokesperson said that Meeter had been replaced in January by Frederieke Leeflang, a Dentons lawyer. She was previously managing partner of major Amsterdam firm Boekel de Neree for five years before it merged with Dentons in 2017.

The spokesperson added: "Meeter has recently informed us that he wants to fulfill his further ambitions outside Deloitte, which we regret but fully support. Meeter in future will remain committed to transforming the Dutch legal profession while increasing his commitment to the social responsibilities of sports organisations."

Meeter was hired as managing partner in June 2019. He previously spent just under six years as global managing director for the auditor's legal arm.

At the end of last year, KPMG's former global head of legal Jurg Birri took over as head of legal for Deloitte Switzerland.
