Mishcon De Reya's head of sports has left the firm's partnership with an associate to set up a new sports law boutique.

Liz Ellen, who has been at Mishcon for 15 years and was made partner at the firm in 2015, left the partnership in April to co-found a new legal venture, Livida Sport, the firm confirmed.

Ellen is joined by Stefania Genesis, an associate within Mishcon's sports group as well as a third director Lin Kuo-Ellen who is not from a legal background.

According to the Mishcon site, Ellen has represented clients in proceedings before FIFA, the European Boxing Union, the Basketball Arbitration Tribunal and the Court of Arbitration for Sport. She is also a director of Women In Football (WIF).

Commenting on the move, Ellen said: "We've enjoyed a combined 25 years with Mishcons, and built a highly regarded Sports Law practice. We now look forward to continuing our work in the sports industry through our new venture, Livida Sport."

Ellen added that she will remain a consultant for Mishcon.

In a statement, Mishcon partner and intellectual property chair Jeremy Hertzog said: "We'd like to thank both Liz and Stef for their contributions to the firm over the years. We wish them well in their new endeavour."

The pair are not the first London lawyers to found their own sports boutique. In 2017, a four-partner team exited Charles Russell Speechlys to found sports boutique Northridge.

In the same year, three former Couchmans partners launched their own sports, media and entertainment boutique Level Law.
