Anticipating that international arbitration will significantly increase globally, Withers has hired an international arbitration partner in Hong Kong.

Sherlin Tung joins from CMS, where she was a Hong Kong-based senior associate specializing in international arbitration. U.S.-qualified Tung focuses her practice on cross-border disputes and has worked on cases in both English and Chinese.

Before joining CMS in 2017, she worked as in-house litigation and arbitration counsel at Vienna-based manufacturer Semperit AG. Before that, she was deputy counsel for ICC International Court of Arbitration in New York. Earlier in her career, she trained in international arbitration in Switzerland.

Withers launched its international arbitration group in 2014 and now has 11 partners worldwide including Tung. The practice is led by London partners Hussein Haeri and Eleni Polycarpou. In Hong Kong, partner Soo Khim Keoy, who joined in 2018 from Baker McKenzie, also works on international arbitration.

"In spite of these difficult times, with the implementation of various measures such as the Belt and Road Initiative, legalization of Third-Party Funding for arbitration in Singapore and Hong Kong, and the Mainland China-Hong Kong Interim Measures Arrangement, I believe there will be an increase in demand for international arbitration not only in the region but also worldwide," Tung said in a statement.
