Borthwick joins Mayer Brown after 23 years at A&O.

Allen & Overy global head of corporate lending and lifer Trevor Borthwick  is joining Mayer Brown, the U.S. firm announced on Wednesday.

Borthwick joins Mayer Brown's banking and finance practice in London as a partner after 33 years at A&O, according the firm.

He advised the lenders on retail giant Debenhams' administration last year, and previously advised Asahi on its £1.9 billion purchase of SAB Miller's two European beer brands, Italy's Peroni and the Netherlands' Grolsch in 2016.

Borthwick is the first significant partner hire for the firm's London base since 2019, when it bolstered its ranks with a duo from DLA Piper. Amy Jacks and Michael Fiddy joined the firm as part of a restructuring push by the base.

A spokesman for A&O said: "Trevor Borthwick has decided to leave Allen & Overy. We would like to thank him for the contribution he has made during his time at Allen & Overy and wish him all the best for the future."
