Global law firm Ashurst has hired DLA Piper's head of real estate in Australia as a partner in its real estate practice in Brisbane, Australia.

Tim Mathers specializes in real estate capital transactions and developments and major commercial and retail leasing transactions. He also regularly advises on energy and resources projects, hotel and leisure developments, infrastructure projects and mergers and acquisitions, Ashurst said.

"We are delighted to be welcoming Tim to Ashurst. He is a very highly regarded real estate lawyer and we are confident that his broad experience and commercial acumen will both build on our team's reputation and assist in further growing our practice and client offering, both nationally and in the Brisbane market," Pauline Tan, practice group head of real estate, Australia, said in a statement.

Mathers had been head of real estate in Australia at DLA Piper since 2017 and partner there since 2015.

DLA Piper did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

In October of last year, Ashurst hired Sydney-based banking and corporate partner Rani John from DLA Piper.
