Clifford Chance has made up 26 lawyers to partner across its global network as the firm looks to maintain its talent pipeline in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nine lawyers are being made up in London, the same number as last year, with another six being promoted in Continental Europe, five apiece in Asia Pacific and the Americas, and one in the Middle East.

Last year, the firm made up 30 partners globally in what was its biggest promotions round in a decade.

Over a third of the new partners are women, which the firm said will mean that 20.6% of its global partnership will be female by the time this year's promotions come into effect on May 1.

Matthew Layton, Clifford Chance global managing partner, said in a statement: "It is a privilege to welcome such an outstanding team of people into the Clifford Chance partnership, where they will play a vital part in the long-term future of the firm.

"It is precisely now, when so many organisations face fundamental challenges as a result of COVID-19, that our continued commitment to investing in people and our leading global capabilities remains as resolute and important as ever.

"Having the right people, with the right skills, and the right culture at the heart of our partnership puts us in the right place to support our clients when they need us most and is at the very core of the long-term success of the firm."

The firm added in a statement that investment in its Americas and Asia Pacific practices have contributed to revenue growth of 45% between the 2015 and 2019 financial years.
