DLA Piper has moved into its new office in Frankfurt, just as Germany is starting to relax restrictions that were put in place to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The move, to the WinX Riverside Tower building, a modern, glass skyscraper, had been pushed back due to construction delays in 2018.

Despite the easing of restrictions by some of Germany's states, DLA Piper said it is continuing to have its employees across Germany—in Munich, Cologne, Hamburg as well as Frankfurt—work from home.

The firm's offices are currently staffed only by what the firm calls "core teams," and those teams are subject to the same regulations that the German government and the Robert Koch Institute for Infectious Diseases have set up for work in public spaces, the firm spokesperson said.

DLA Piper also said it is taking a wait-and-see approach before it tells its lawyers and staff to return to their offices. Its work-from-home arrangements are functioning well, the spokesperson said, so DLA Piper does not want to subject its employees to any unnecessary risks.

The new office has 6,000 square meters (about 65,000 square feet) on floors 22 through 27 and the roof terrace on the 28th floor of the 110-meter high tower.

"After having recorded considerable growth at our Frankfurt office in recent years, we are looking forward to our new premises in a modern environment," Burkhard Führmeyer, DLA Piper's office managing partner said in a statement.

According to DLA Piper's website, the firm currently has about 70 lawyers in Frankfurt and about 240 in all of Germany.
