DAC Beachcroft has made redundancies across its real estate and commercial investment practices in London and Leeds, following a consultation that started in January.

The firm has made eight redundancies, four in each office, which includes associates, secretaries and a senior associate.

The firm added that five members of the real estate team have been redeployed into other areas of the business.

The redundancy round started prior to the arrival of the coronavirus pandemic, according to a spokesperson for the firm.

In the Leeds real estate team, the firm laid off one solicitor, one associate, and two legal executives at the end of February. It also redeployed a paralegal and an administrator.

Meanwhile in London, it confirmed the redundancies of one associate, one senior associate and two secretaries in the commercial investment and development team. The firm also redeployed one associate, one legal director and one secretary.

"This is never an easy process to go through and we want to thank those individuals who have been affected by this consultation for their understanding and cooperation as we have made these necessary changes to our teams. We wish them all the best."

Earlier in May, DAC Beachcroft announced sweeping financial measures in light of the COVID-19 pandemic which included asking some of its lawyers, including partners, whose work levels have been affected to reduce their working hours and pay by 20%.
