The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) has fined a Shoosmiths partner after he was convicted of driving while under the influence of excess alcohol.

In a decision published by the SRA on May 7, Shoosmiths' head of private equity Sean Wright was fined £750. He will also pay £300 for the costs of the investigation.

Wright joined Shoosmiths in 2004 as a partner, according to the firm's website, and is based in its Solent office.

He notably led a Shoosmiths team acting for shareholders of Hamleys on its £100m sale to China based C.Banner International.

In a trial last year, Wright pleaded guilty and was disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for 18 months, fined £1,500 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £150 and costs of £85.

He notified the SRA of his conviction on September 16, 2019 and cooperated fully with the SRA's investigation.

A spokesperson for Shoosmiths said: "Sean admitted the charges, notified the SRA at the earliest opportunity and co-operated throughout. We respect the decision of the SRA given the nature of the offence.  At the same time, we have also held our own internal inquiry and the matter has been resolved."
