Linklaters has poached an intellectual property partner from the Frankfurt office of U.S. rival White & Case.

Michael Leicht is set to join the U.K. firm's Germany practice later this month, according to a statement from the firm. He will be a partner within Linklaters' TMT group

Leicht is currently a so-called local partner within White & Case's IP group and advises on cross-border carve-outs, M&A transactions and outsourcings, particularly in the tech sector, according to the White & Case website. Local partners are not classed as members of White & Case's partnership.

The firm employs nearly 100 local partners, over a third of whom are based in Germany, according to the firm's website.

Leicht has been at White & Case for just under two years, according to his LinkedIn profile. Prior to that he worked at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer for 10 years as an associate, principal associate and counsel successively.

Richard Cumbley, partner and Global Head of TMT and IP at Linklaters, commented: "Technological disruption is having an ever-increasing impact on corporates across all sectors, whilst technological integration is making transactions more and more complex. "

"Michael Leicht is a welcome addition to the firm as we continue to grow our TMT/IP offering in Germany in line with market demand.

A White & Case spokesperson said: "We confirm that Michael Leicht is leaving White & Case. We wish him every success in his future endeavours."

The appointment is the Linklaters' second lateral from White & Case so far this year. In January, the firm appointed Paris-based Colin Chang as a partner in the firm's London banking practice.

More recently the firm hired JP Morgan Securities managing director and associate general counsel Pansy Wong as a partner in the firm's financial regulation practice.

In April, the firm also promoted three lawyers in the Frankfurt practice to the partnership: Andreas Mülle, Christian Hundeshagen and Julia Grothaus.

Earlier in the year, Linklaters became one of the first firms to cancel its annual partner conference, scheduled to take place in the the Berlin office last month. The conference instead took place virtually.
