Hogan Lovells has started planning for the future re-opening of its U.K. offices, the firm confirmed today.

The firm said in a statement that it has hired an independent senior health adviser to help with the planning for the future re-opening of its U.K. offices.

It said that it is "not going to rush into" re-opening its U.K. premises, but when it does it will initially do with "small numbers of people who have said that they would prefer to come in".

But so far, the firm expects that the majority of its people will continue to work from home "for a considerable time", and the firm will primarily follow the government's COVID-19 recovery strategy guidance.

Susan Bright, head of U.K. and Africa at the firm, said in a statement: "We have a global firmwide approach in place with regards to our plans for office re-entry. Our paramount priority is to ensure the health and safety of our people. Measures that we will be implementing include physical distancing in the office, increased hygiene practices and flexible working practices including continued remote working."

One partner at the firm told Law.com International that the firm has experimented with rotating teams across its Asia practice, as those offices plan returns, and that this could be an option for the U.K. base.

Another partner at the firm told Law.com International that they would expect the firm to take into account people's health preconditions, family and financial situations as factors to take into account when determining who can go back to the office.

The announcement comes as other firms are starting to plan their future re-opening. Baker McKenzie has been surveying its London workforce to gather information and opinions on a potential return to their 100 New Bridge base.
