EDF will start the review process later in the year.

EDF Energy has opted to continue working with its current roster of legal advisers after pausing its panel review process because of the coronavirus.

Its current panel ran until March, with a review process expected before then.

But the U.K. energy giant has chosen to delay the review due to the COVID-19 pandemic, primarily because of the inability to hold face-to-face meetings, a person with knowledge of the situation said.

The company's current panel has run since 2016, following a review in which EDF cut its roster by 40%.

Baker McKenzie, Herbert Smith Freehills, Pinsent Masons, Eversheds Sutherland, Squire Patton Boggs, Burges Salmon, CMS and Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner currently sit on the panel.

The person with knowledge of the process added that EDF has been reviewing its requirements but will have engage in the process when meetings become possible "later in the year or whenever that time comes".

COVID-19 has caused a number of businesses to delay their legal panel review processes, including the U.K.'s Financial Conduct Authority and telecoms giant BT.
