Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom has reopened several of its European offices as it appoints a global task-force to work on a plan for its people to return to bases worldwide.

The firm's Munich, Frankfurt and Paris offices have reopened, while the firm is also eyeing a return to its London base.

One German partner said the firm's Frankfurt office has implemented a "one-way street" system in the office to ensure that distancing measures can be followed.

People who choose to return are being asked to avoid traveling to work via subway for fear of infection.

The partner added that returning to offices is "voluntary," adding: "We want to protect everyone who works here."

The reopening of the three bases comes as new COVID-19 cases in Germany and France have gradually decreased.

The firm is not, however, expected to reopen its London base in the short term. Staff will continue to work remotely until the U.K. government "eases restrictions," according to a spokesperson for the firm.

The spokesperson added in a statement that the firm has appointed both global and London task forces to work on a "return-to-office plan" so that the firm will be ready to return to normal "when the time is right" and when safeguarding measures have been implemented.

Skadden has about 31 lawyers in both Frankfurt and Paris, and 11 in Munich, according to the firm's website.

Several firms have begun plotting returns to their offices. Baker McKenzie has surveyed all of its U.K. employees about their feelings about a possible return, while Hogan Lovells confirmed on Thursday that it has started planning for the future re-opening of its U.K. offices.

The firm said in a statement that it has hired an independent senior health adviser to help with the planning for the future re-opening of its U.K. offices.
