Slaughter and May and Clifford Chance have both won mandates to advise the government on short-term transport projects, each worth £500,000.

Slaughter and May has won a contract to advise the Department for Transport (DfT)'s international rail team, according to an award document published by the government.

The contract runs for 4 months until the end of July and is worth £500,000.

According to guidance published by the government, its international rail team leads on international rail policy, in particular the negotiation and implementation of proposed EU rail legislation.

Its prime objective is to influence European rail policy development and maximise opportunities for the UK rail industry in Europe, the document states.

Meanwhile CC has won a similarly lucrative contract for the DfT worth up to £500,000, as part of which it will advise on the department's 'Spring Project'.

The four-month project was awarded to the firm in mid-March, a few days prior to the U.K. government announcing a nationwide lockdown, and is set to last until mid-July, according to an online document published by the DfT.

The contract adds that the CC mandate was appointed under the transport department's 'finance and highly complex transactions' panel.

Slaughters regularly acts for the U.K. government. One of its most recent mandates was awarded in March, when it was appointed alongside Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer to advise the U.K. Treasury and the Bank of England on its financial scheme to help businesses tackle Covid-19 related disruptions to their cash flows.
