Deloitte Legal has continued expanding its offering, as the COVID-19 pandemic pushes alternative client offerings to the forefront of the industry.

The Big Four accountant's legal managed services arm has hired Luminance Technologies' CEO, Emily Foges, and EY Riverview Law's head of managed services and projects Sonia Williamson.

In a statement announcing her arrival, Foges flagged the current strained business environment as more reason for alternative legal offerings to thrive.

She said: "Legal teams are under immense pressure to deliver more with fewer resources. One example is the sheer volume of corporate and personal data, which is now so vast that normally routine tasks, such as document review, have become too labour-intensive and onerous for time-constrained, high-skilled legal practitioners. Deloitte's multidisciplinary offering is a key differentiator for unlocking efficiency bottlenecks for legal functions."

Foges will join Deloitte Legal as a lead partner, while Williamson joins as a director in the business and will work in contract management, a Deloitte spokesperson said in a statement.

Foges is set to join Deloitte in June, after a four-year stint as CEO of AI contract automation platform, Luminance Technologies.

Prior to this, she acted as the international product development director at Equifax and has previously held director roles at BT Retail and Betfair, according to LinkedIn. Williamson, meanwhile, was previously the general counsel for TalkTalk Technology.

Foges will also remain on the advisory board for Luminance's European operations, according to a statement by the company, while she will be replaced in the CEO role by its Americas president, Jason Brennan.

Deloitte Legal has picked up a number of legal tech experts from U.K. rivals in the past year. In October, the firm hired the CEO of BamLegal, Catherine Bamford, as a director leading on legal engineering.

The Big Four giant also hired the director of legal operations at Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, Bruce Braude, as its first chief technology officer in July last year.
