Beirut Law Firm has joined World Services Group's (WSG) growing network as an exclusive legal member for Lebanon, the U.S.-based professional services network has announced.
Founded in 2002, Texas-based WSG is a professional services network of law, accounting and investment banking firms and is among the largest networks of its kind. It counts U.S. law firms Hunton Andrews Kurth and Haynes and Boone, U.K. law firms Shoosmiths and Shepherd and Wedderburn, Australia's MinterEllison, Spain's Garrigues, South Africa's ENSAfrica and Ireland's A&L Goodbody among its legal services constituents.
BLF was founded in Beirut's commercial centre in 2001, and is today headquartered 11km north-east in Antelias. It has worked with the Lebanese Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Telecommunications, and The Association of Banks in Lebanon.
The firm specializes in all major corporate and business fields of law, covering restructuring, M&A, local and global taxation, banking and finance, insurance, reinsurance and insurance recovery, labor and employment, IP and other business-related practices, as well as civil and commercial litigation, along with alternative dispute resolution, WSG said in a statement.
"We value WSG's high-quality standards for membership and the network's excellent reputation for providing members with opportunities for new business which will increase our firm's reach and expand the global scope of service we provide our clients," said Charbel Abi-Antoun, Beirut Law Firm founder and managing partner.
The announcement is timely as a spike in contentious work is expected due to Lebanon's stagnant economy, which sparked major protests last year over a weakening currency and endemic corruption.
"We feel that Beirut Law Firm is on a growth path in a market which is challenging at present, and we could not be happier with their decision to become an integral part of WSG," the network's Chairman, J. Michael Bernard, said.
WSG was established to allow independents to win more international work associated with investment banking and accounting, as clients' requirements became increasingly cross-border. Legal referral networks have helped regional and local practices to remain in competition with increasingly large international firms' multi-continent office presences, as well as the Big Four accounting giants.
Elsewhere in the Middle East, WSG counts existing network members in Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Turkey, and the UAE.
