EY has hired another senior DLA Piper partner to its ranks, its third major hire this month as the Big Four accountancy firm further boosts its U.K. offering.

Joel Cooper is set to join EY as a partner in the firm's tax business in July, after five years at DLA Piper as co-head of the firm's international transfer pricing team.

His move to EY will mark a return to the Big Four firm for Cooper, who was a senior consultant there for four years from 2005. In his new role, Cooper will focus on global transfer pricing controversy.

Cooper has previously held roles as an international tax specialist for the World Bank Group and an examiner for the Chartered Institute of Taxation.

A spokesperson for DLA Piper thanked Cooper for his contribution to the firm, adding that partner Randall Fox will continue to lead the international transfer pricing group from London following Cooper's exit.

At the start of May, EY brought in former DLA Piper lawyer Charles Morrison on board to lead its energy sector team within its U.K. legal practice. He had previously been international group head of DLA Piper's finance and projects practice.

The Big Four firm also this month hired Anup Kollanethu, the former head of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and DWF's legal services offerings, as a strategic adviser to the company's global law leadership.

EY recently outlined its global strategy to bulk up its tech, law and consulting offering in order to become a leading legal service provider.

In April, EY enacted a cut to staff pay and hours in its Oceania offices to offset the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, following the implementation of a hiring freeze and reduced partner drawdowns in March.
