Shanghai-based law firm Llinks Law Offices, one of China's most profitable firms, has become the latest to launch an office in Shenzhen, China's technology center and an increasingly popular base for Chinese and global law firms.

The new office is starting out with four partners from rival Chinese firm AllBright Law Offices. The group is led by partner Alex Huang, who joins with partners Candice Du, Alan Chen and Sheldon Chen and a dozen additional lawyers.

Shenzhen is Llinks' fifth office; the Shanghai-based firm also has a Beijing office and opened in Hong Kong in 2015 and in London 2017. Llinks said the Shenzhen office will work closely with its Hong Kong office, which operates in association with local firm Dennis Fong & Co.

Opening in Hong Kong is part of Llinks' effort to capture opportunities in the Greater Bay Area and in south China in general, the firm said. Shenzhen is less than 30 minutes by high-speed train and under an hour by ferry from Hong Kong.

Huang advises on corporate and real estate transactions with a special focus on commercial real estate leasing matters. He joined AllBright in 2007 and became a senior partner with the firm in 2016.

Du and Alan Chen both advise on cross-border finance and private equity deals; both were most recently senior partners with AllBright. Sheldon Chen advises venture capital funds on investments and other transactions. The group has worked together since 2015. Last year, they represented China Resources Capital Management on a sale of its holdings in a commercial and office buildings complex in Shanghai.

Llinks is one of the most profitable law firms in China. In 2018, the 105-lawyer firm reported $57.3 million in gross revenue, making it the 28th highest-grossing firm in the nation; the firm had the highest revenue per lawyer in 2018 among all firms surveyed by Law.com International.

Most of China's largest law firms are already in Shenzhen, which is also increasingly attractive to international players. Brinks Gilson Lione, Fish & Richardson and Simmons & Simmons also  have offices in Shenzhen.
