Debevoise & Plimpton has opened an office in Luxembourg with the hire of Allen & Overy lawyer Christopher Dortschy.

Dortschy, who has been at Allen & Overy as counsel for over three years according to LinkedIn, will head up the new outfit.

London and Frankfurt-based Debevoise private equity partner Patricia Volhard will also provide support to the new office, according to a statement by the firm.

Michael Blair, presiding partner, added in the statement: "Luxembourg has become an increasingly important jurisdiction for our private equity clients.

"Having on-the-ground capabilities in the country will help us better meet their needs, and we welcome Christopher's experience in this important jurisdiction."

Luxembourg continues to be a focal point for law firms, with growth by a number of international players in the country in recent years. Fieldfisher and Ashurst both grew its operations there in 2018, while Goodwin launched its first base in Luxembourg last year, citing the impact of Brexit on the investment funds business.

Meanwhile, CMS recently refocused efforts in its Luxembourg office with four hires earlier this year.
