Dentons' Madrid office has hired a new partner to lead its Spain employment and labour practice, the firm announced on Tuesday.

Eduardo Gomez de Enterria joins the firm from Herbert Smith Freehills' Madrid office, where he led the firm's Spain employment practice, the firm said in a statement.

He advises on recruitment, dismissals, health and safety, pension plans and employee incentive schemes. He also represents clients in labour disputes.

Jabier Badiola, Dentons' Spain managing partner, said in a statement: "As we begin to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, this is a critical time for our clients, and we are ready to support them in the challenging times ahead.

"Spain is a strategic market for Dentons, and our European leadership is committed to investing in top talent to grow our key practices. We are delighted to welcome a lawyer of Eduardo's caliber to lead our employment and labor practice."

The new hire comes a week after Dentons appointed Badiola as Spain managing partner, replacing Jesús Varela in the role. Varela left to join local firm Pérez-Llorca with two other partners.

Earlier this year, the firm launched a capital markets practice in Spain with the recruitment of two partners from Baker McKenzie and White & Case.
