Norton Rose Fulbright's head of its German employment practice has left the firm after nearly 19 years, leaving the firm with just one employment partner in Germany.

Cornelia Marquardt's departure to boutique Munich-based employment firm Maat Rechtsanwälte also leaves the Norton Rose's Munich office without an employment law partner, according to the firm's website.

Marquardt, currently the head of Norton Rose's German employment law practice, has been a partner at the firm since 2005 and was for three years leader of the Munich office, according to her LinkedIn profile.

The departure leaves Norton Rose's German presence with a single employment law partner based in Hamburg, Frank Weberndörfer, according to the firm website—and it is a significant setback for the office in Munich, which is the seat of a large number of multinational companies.

In a telephone interview with Law.com International, Marquardt said: "The market is changing, and right now, a boutique law firm is an even better platform for my clients.

"In my time at Norton I had every opportunity to grow professionally, and now I'm very excited to start something new."

In a statement, a spokesperson for Norton Rose said: "We confirm that Cornelia Marquardt, an employment partner in the Munich office of Norton Rose Fulbright LLP, will retire from the partnership on June 30, 2020. We wish her well in her future endeavours. With more than 300 lawyers worldwide, our employment and labor team will continue to provide our clients with high quality legal advice and support in Germany and across the world."

In May, Norton partner Anthony Morton left to spearhead Pinsent Masons' financial services practice in Frankfurt.

The firm has around 130 lawyers in Germany, across offices in Munich, Frankfurt, and Hamburg, according to the website.
