Fashion marketplace app Depop has hired its inaugural head of legal.

Laura Harradine-Greene, previously general counsel at Wyevale Garden Centres for just over a year, has joined the London-based business, which allows users to resell clothes and accessories via the app.

Harradine-Green was previously a solicitor at Trowers & Hamlins and CMS, according to LinkedIn.

Earlier this year, Depop announced it was recruiting for the newly-created legal head role, with the successful candidate tasked with establishing and developing the company's legal function.

Depop's chief financial officer, Francois Callens, said in a statement: "We are so thrilled to have Laura join our growing team at Depop. Laura brings best-in-class corporate and commercial experience and expertise to our organisation.

"She will be responsible for establishing our global in-house legal function, acting as a senior advisor to all our teams on matters of legal, compliance, and governance across our business."

On June 9, Depop paused internal activity in the business to focus on "reflection and education in solidarity with the black community".

The company has 17 million registered users across 147 countries and is the only European player to have recently entered the top 25 shopping apps by daily active users, according to Depop.
