Allen & Overy has restructured its German management team, combining the senior and managing partner roles into one.

The firm has appointed partner Wolf Bussian to the role of managing partner for its German offices, scrapping the senior partner position previously held by Thomas Ubber.

Former managing partner Astrid Krüger and Ubber's terms had run until the end of April, but the firm said in a statement due to COVID-19 disruption, the pair's terms were extended until June.

Bussian has been a partner at A&O since 2013 and for the last two years has headed its German litigation and arbitration practice.

He said in a statement: "These are challenging times for all of us – our staff, our clients and our society. We are supporting our clients across the world through the economic crisis that has been triggered by the coronavirus."

"These difficult situations also harbour unique opportunities. Our partners and staff have demonstrated enormous flexibility, innovation, reliability and solidarity even in these difficult times."

A&O recently refreshed its global executive committee, which is responsible for the development and implementation of the firm's overall strategy.

It added four new members to the group from across its European bases.
