CMS and Deloitte are eyeing up a phased return to their London offices starting next month. 

In both cases the firms expect much lower office capacities in order to comply with social distancing guidelines and in line with government guidance. 

CMS is looking at a return to the firm's London office at Cannon Street towards the end of July, according to a partner at the firm. 

A number of measures will additionally be taken by the office landlord to enforce social distancing including the construction of protective screens, the introduction of one-way systems in the office and the continued closure of the firm's canteen, the partner added. 

A CMS spokesperson said in a statement: "We are in the process of project planning for a return to the offices although it is still very much a work in progress with no specific dates set at this stage. We continue to take guidance from governments, the CBI, our commercial landlords and The Law Society."

According to the partner, normal office operations with full capacity are unlikely to occur this calendar year.

Meanwhile at Deloitte, a spokesperson for the firm said that the Big Four firm intended to open six of its U.K. offices on July 6.  

In an article on the Deloitte website, the firm said it was expecting between 10%-20% of its staff to be able to occupy the office buildings should they wish. The return to work policy applies to all sector lines including the firm's legal division. 

In a statement, a spokesperson added: "These offices have been made available to improve the health and wellbeing for our people where circumstance means they cannot work from home. 

"All of our open offices will comply with government guidelines and social distancing measures in order to provide our people with a safe working environment."

Earlier on Monday, Dentons' U.K. and Middle East LLP announced that it had reopened its London office for staff who would prefer to return to the office for mental health and well-being reasons.

The firm's Fleet Place office is currently operating a track and trace system whereby those allowed to come into the office are given a pass that only works on their floor and are required to sign in and out of the building.
