Accountancy and business advisory BDO general counsel Adam Culy has joined Stephenson Harwood as a partner in its London office.

Culy, who had stints at DAC Beachcroft and RPC in the early stages of his career, took up the general counsel role at BDO in 2007, according to LinkedIn. He primarily focused on accountancy claims and regulatory investigations at the firm, which operates an international network of public accounting, tax, consulting and business advisory firms

He joins Stephenson Harwood as a professional liability and regulatory partner.

Tony Woodcock, head of regulatory at the firm, said in a statement: "With increased regulatory scrutiny of the accountancy sector, we're seeing a greater demand for senior lawyers with the skills and experience that Adam brings."

He added that the hire will "enhance further the support we provide to our professional services clients".

In April, Stephenson Harwood promoted six lawyers to partnership, despite COVID-19 uncertainty among the industry.
