U.K. shipping specialist Hill Dickinson has hired a new partner from Paul Hastings to expand its small capital markets team in Hong Kong.

YK Chan joins the office's equity capital markets team, which now has two partners. He will co-lead the team along with corporate partner Kurt Lau, who became the firm's first partner specializing in initial public offerings in Hong Kong when he joined from Eversheds Sutherland in September last year.

Previously an associate at Paul Hastings, Chan has advised investment banks and issuers on initial public offerings and secondary fundraising transactions in Hong Kong. He also advises clients on mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, and other general corporate matters.

"In [hiring Chan], we are also sending a clear message to the local market that our focus and confidence remain very firmly on Hong Kong," said Damien Laracy, head of Hill Dickinson Hong Kong, in a statement.

The U.K.-headquartered firm has eight offices around the world. In Asia, it has offices in Hong Kong and Singapore.
