DLA Piper has cut its NQ salaries by £2,000 in its U.K. offices to £76,000 for its London-based associates, becoming the latest major law firm to cut salaries for its junior ranks.

According to one person at the firm, the firm will pay its 2020 London NQs £76,000, down from last year's rate of £78,000, in response to the coronavirus pandemic. In the firm's other U.K. offices, NQ salaries will be £44,000, down from £46,000.

The firm is also currently deferring lawyer pay reviews, according to the person, who added that both 2019 and 2020 NQs will be part of firmwide salary reviews "in due course".

A raft of other law firms have trimmed NQ salaries in recent weeks, including Baker McKenzie, which said earlier on Tuesday that it was cutting its NQ rates by £2,500 to £87,500 a year, and is scrapping sign-on bonuses for the cohort.

Slaughter and May, Clifford Chance, Allen & Overy, Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner and Osborne Clarke have all opted to cut salaries, while others such as Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and White & Case have decided to hold their current rates.
