Eversheds Sutherland and Ashurst are among the firms shortlisted in multiple categories of this year's Legal Innovation Awards, which will for the first time celebrate the most forward-thinking and creative teams in U.K. private practice and in house with a virtual ceremony.

Eversheds is in the running for eight categories, including Business Development Innovation, Client Services Innovation, and PR and Communications Innovation.

Ashurst has been shortlisted for five awards, meanwhile, including Diversity Innovation and Future of Legal Services Innovation – Large Private Practice.

Other law firms to have been shortlisted for several awards include Shearman & Sterling, DLA Piper, Reed Smith and DAC Beachcroft.

This year new sub-categories of awards have been introduced, including in the CSR and Diversity categories.

The 2020 awards now include CSR Innovation (Multi-firm) and CSR Innovation (Collaboration) as well as CSR Innovation. For Diversity Innovation, the awards have added a new category of Diversity Innovation (Ethnicity Focus) in order to properly highlight the work firms are doing in this area.

Companies' in-house teams represented among the shortlist include National Grid, Trainline and Weetabix. To view the full shortlist, please click here.

The independent judging panel for the awards includes a range of private practice leaders, including Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer's former chief legal innovation officer Isabel Parker and Taylor Wessing head of innovation and change Ruth Ling. The line up also includes in-house heavyweight Duane Morris general counsel Alexander Geisler and other innovation leaders, including Farewill head of legal Lorraine Robinson.

This year's awards will take place on October 2 via a virtual ceremony due to COVID-19 restrictions, hosted by impressionist Darren Altman.

There will be a small entry fee of £199 (+vat) to view the awards, with a third of all proceeds going to charity LawCare.
