Kirkland & Ellis

Kirkland & Ellis has recruited away a debt finance partner from Latham & Watkins' Hong Kong office.

Manas Chandrashekar advises sponsors, borrowers and lenders on complex cross-border debt finance transactions including leveraged financing, asset backed financing and investment fund financing. In May, he teamed up with Latham Singapore partner Timothy Hia to advise Hong Kong-based casino operator Melco Resorts & Entertainments Ltd. on a $1.92 billion facility to refinance its existing debt. He's also advised private equity houses including Baring, TPG and The Carlyle Group on term loans and other finance transactions in Asia.

Chandrashekar joined Latham in 2016 as counsel from White & Case; he became a partner in 2019. Before moving to Hong Kong with White & Case in 2015, he practiced for seven years with Simpson Thacher & Bartlett in London and was seconded to leading Indian firm AZB & Partners during that time. He started his career with legacy Lovells' finance practice.

Kirkland's Hong Kong office is about to lose finance partner David Irvine, who has a well-known practice advising private equity sponsors on leveraged financing deals. Irvine, who joined in 2015 from Linklaters, was part of a wider effort for Kirkland to build up a finance practice in Hong Kong, a space traditionally dominated by British firms. Irvine will rejoin Linklaters in London later this year.

Last year, Kirkland also lost leveraged finance partner Daniel Abercromby to Weil, Gotshal & Manges in Hong Kong. In addition to Chandrashekar, Hong Kong partners Jacqueline Zheng, Karen Ho, Jacqueline Tang and Wei-Yang Lin also advise on debt finance deals.
