Shearman & Sterling has hired a London partner from Weil Gotshal & Manges.

Restructuring partner Alexander Wood is joining Shearman & Sterling after eight years at Weil Gotshal.Prior to joining Weil Gotshal in 2012, Wood had spent over five years at legacy Lovells.

Wood advises corporates, sponsors and creditors on complex and cross-border restructurings and insolvencies.

David Beveridge, global senior partner at Shearman, said in a statement: "Alex adds valuable financial restructuring and insolvency expertise in London, complementing our existing global offering. His appointment demonstrates the firm's continued commitment to strategic investments in new partners and attorneys globally.

"In light of the current and anticipated market conditions, Alex brings knowledge, experience and relationships to reinforce our existing capabilities."

The hire comes just after that of arbitration partner Garreth Wong from Bird & Bird in London, marking two rare additions to Shearman's London base.

In February, the firm had two departures from the office - restructuring partner Solomon Noh and counsel Alastair Goldrein, who both joined Dechert.
