Willkie Farr & Gallagher has hired a corporate partner from U.S. rival Weil, Gotshal & Manges to its Frankfurt office, the firm has announced.

Kamyar Abrar joins Willkie after nearly a decade at Weil, the firm said in a statement. At Weil,  Abrar was head of the firm's German antitrust practice, with a focus on private equity and M&A transactions.

"Kamyar Abrar is one of the most prominent young corporate partners in the country," Georg Linde, head of Willkie's Frankfurt office, said in the statement.

Abrar had been with Weil for almost a decade, where he advised private equity clients including Lone Star, GHO, EQT and Advent, as well as corporate clients such as copper producer Aurubis and building materials distributor Stark Group.

Following the hires of partners Cornelia Thaler, real estate, Markus Lauer, M&A, and finance partner Ralf Defren, Abrar is the fourth partner to join Willkie in the past year.

"Kamyar is a great addition to the firm's growing pan-European private equity practice," London partner Gavin Gordon said in the release.

Willkie reputation in the private equity space is growing. Recent deals include advising  U.S. asset manager GoldenTree on the HSH Nordbank transaction, private equity house CVC on the acquisition of Bosch Packaging, and leading on the Karstadt-Kaufhof department store merger.
