Pinsent Masons has launched a brand management platform in collaboration with a Danish technology firm, citing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on brand protection as a primary reason for the launch.

The platform, called Alteria, allows clients to handle and enforce their brand portfolio, as well as providing them with a geographic overview and profile of their brand data, according to a statement by Pinsents.

It comes as the COVID-19 pandemic has precipitated a surge in counterfeit products sold online, leading to the need for enhanced brand protection, the firm added.

The platform monitors brands for potential infringements across online marketplaces, social media platforms and e-commerce websites. If any infringements are found, an online takedown request can be issued immediately, the firm said.

Alteria has been developed in collaboration with the Danish software developer RightlyIP ApS, according to a spokesperson for Pinsents.

In a statement, Florian Traub, head of brand protection at Pinsents, said: "A brand is one of the most valuable assets of any organisation and misuse and counterfeiting can have negative impacts across business reputation, consumer safety and profits.

"Organisations will be particularly aware of this given the issues seen throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, where the sale of counterfeit and sub-standard goods on and offline has increased drastically."

The Alteria platform is the latest legaltech partnership Pinsent Masons has entered. Last year, the firm partnered with litigation analytics provider Solomonic to develop an IP disputes analytics module, as well as legaltech firm Genie AI to develop AI tools for contract analysis.
