Nine law firms have been ranked among the 17 best employers for inclusion in 2020 by LGBT+ rights charity Stonewall.
The legal industry has ramped up its inclusivity efforts in recent years, with the awards showcasing the best of those firms which have had successes in improving their culture.
Allen & Overy, Herbert Smith Freehills, Baker McKenzie and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer were among the firms to be recognised in Stonewall's Top Global Employers List for their outstanding commitment to LGBT employment equality globally.
Hogan Lovells, Pinsent Masons, Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, Dentons and Simmons & Simmons also made the cut.
According to Stonewall, the companies on the list "represent those who have gone above and beyond to push for LGBT equality within their organisations and in wider society".
The firms were scored against key criteria such as: employee policies, training, staff engagement, leadership, monitoring, procurement, community engagement and understanding local context, global mobility, and additional in-country activity.
Baker McKenzie, meanwhile, also won Stonewall's Global Trans Inclusion Award, and Allen & Overy picked up the Global LGBT Network Award for its 'A&Out' offering.
Dentons' London-based global co-head of technology, media and telecommunications Igor Ostrowski won the Senior Champion Award for supporting legal action against right-wing newspaper Gazeta Polska and the distribution of 'LGBT+-free Zone' stickers in Poland.
Nancy Kelley, chief executive of Stonewall, said in a statement that the progress being made towards achieving LGBT equality "has never felt more fragile".
"That's why it's crucial for companies like our Top Global Employers to step up and make sure their LGBT staff and customers are looked after. Multinational companies have a powerful part to play in driving equality and progress in society," she added.
Other major businesses to have been included on the Top Employers list include Accenture, BP, Fidelity International, GSK, HSBC, NatWest, Vodafone, and Zurich Insurance Group.
Exclusive research by Law.com International recently revealed the top 25 law firms with the most LGBT lawyers in the U.K., with Shearman & Sterling, Herbert Smith Freehills and Boies Schiller Flexner topping the list.
According the Solicitors Regulation Authority's (SRA) diversity report published in March, 3% of all U.K. lawyers identify as lesbian, gay or bisexual compared with 2% of the rest of the U.K. workforce.
