Legal Tech May Dodge the EU's Proposed AI Rules—For Now
Vendors warn that the days of lax AI rules for legal tech are fleeting—and some in the industry aren't prepared for stiffer requirements.

Legal tech providers should be relieved that the European Union's proposed high-risk artificial intelligence regulation doesn't largely apply to their sector. However, the days of loose legal tech regulation are likely numbered.
Legal tech companies noted the EU's document hints to an evolving AI regulatory approach that will eventually regulate their industry and bring with it increased costs and potential privacy risks.
On April 21, the European Commission released its proposal for regulating certain artificial intelligence systems. In the 108-page document, the commission outlined their prohibitions of certain AI practices, rules for the use of AI in the EU, defined high-risk AI systems, and listed rules for market monitoring.
