A father-and-son team of Canadian litigators have won a precedent-setting decision that the 2020 downing of a Ukraine International Airlines flight by missiles in Iran was an intentional terrorist act.

The two surface-to-air missiles fired by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard that downed the flight departing Tehran and bound for Kiev on Jan. 8, 2020, killed all 176 passengers on board, including 138 who had ties to Canada. Of those, 55 were Canadian citizens and 30 were permanent residents.
