Managers in every industry have to perform the same balancing act of keeping workers happy while working them hard enough to make the maximum profit. In law that equation has historically been easy – high salaries have justified the long hours required.

But throw in a lengthy period of everyone getting used to working remotely combined with unprecedented levels of sustained activity and workers are starting to question their end of the bargain.
