September Moves: A Busy Month of Hiring For US Firms In London
Other firms making hires include Mishcon de Reya, Reed Smith and Simmons & Simmons.

Law Firm PartnersConrad Purcell has joined Haynes and Boone's London office from Bird & Bird, a statement said. Purcell will join as a partner in its energy, power and natural resources practice and his experience includes advising on the financing and development of major infrastructure projects in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The British Institute of International and Comparative Law (BIICL) has appointed former U.K. Supreme Court president, Lord Neuberger of Abbotsbury, as its new president, a statement said. He was Supreme Court president between 2012 and 2017. Neuberger takes over from Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers, who has been in the position since 2016. Simmons & Simmons has hired Oliver Irons from Hogan Lovells, a press release said. Irons was formerly counsel at Hogan Lovells, according to his website bio, and leaves after five years. Irons, who joins as as a payment regulatory partner on October 11, typically advises financial institutions, disruptors, cryptoasset firms, e-commerce platforms and telecoms companies.
James Castro-Edwards has joined Arnold & Porter in London, a statement said, as counsel in the firm's privacy, cybersecurity and data strategy group. He joins from Wedlake Bell where he was partner for six years, according to LinkedIn.
Reed Smith has hired finance and restructuring partner Kathleen Garret to its London office. According to a statement, she joins from Irish law firm Arthur Cox. She leaves Arthur Cox after over 28 years, according to LinkedIn. Partner Noel Wardle has left Charles Russell Speechlys after six years to join Temple Bright, according to the firm's website. His experience includes advising healthcare businesses and practitioners on healthcare regulation. Vinson & Elkins is hiring two new partners from Hogan Lovells. Roberta Downey, joins the firm alongside Angus Rankin who has trained with Hogan Lovells and qualified in 2007. Michcon de Reya has added a real estate finance partner, Francisa Sepulveda, to its team from Reed Smith. Sepulveda advises funds and financial institutions on investment and development financing. She has worked at Reed Smith for the past seven years and prior to that, trained at Taylor Wessing before joining Allen & Overy in 2009.

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
