At the beginning of 2021, Epiq rang in the new year with the launch of a new flexible staffing service, dubbed Epiq Counsel and aimed at corporate legal departments. And now, as the year is set to close, Epiq is bolstering its flexible staffing capabilities once again—but this time, through acquisition.

Epiq announced on Wednesday it has acquired Canadian alternative legal services provider Simplex Services Inc., for an undisclosed amount. Originally founded in 2012 by former General Electric executives, Simplex and its affiliated Simplex Legal law firm provide flexible corporate legal staffing, technology services, and legal tech consulting throughout Canada.

Simplex will continue to operate under its current name and branding, the company said in an email to Legaltech News, a sister publication of Law.com International. The company's current operating model and management team will also persist, so "Simplex clients will experience the same level of focus, dedication and support they have come to expect," added Martine Boucher, co-founder of Simplex Services and managing partner of Simplex Legal.
