Politics are top of mind for lawyers active in Latin America, where several large economies are flirting with leftist populism as the difficulties of the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbate social discontent in the region.

Peru elected a leftist populist as president in July, while Chile did the same in December. Left-leaning candidates are also top contenders for the presidencies in Brazil and Colombia, where elections are set to take place in 2022, and Mexico is three years into a six-year populist attempt to completely overhaul the economy.
