March Moves: The Hires, Promotions and Relocations You Might Have Missed
Key moves this month for Freshfields, Mishcon, Covington and more.

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has relocated a team of lawyers, boosting its international arbitration practice team in Madrid to 12 lawyers. According to a firm statement, New York-based partner and partner and head of international arbitration for the Americas and co-head of the Latin America practice, Noiana Marigo (pictured), will also spend part of her time in Madrid now. She joins two senior associates and two associates in the relocation. Covington & Burling has hired Mark Thompson to its London office as a partner and co-chair of the firm's global private equity practice. He joins from Weil, Gotshal & Manges where he has been partner for the last three years. Thompson has extensive experience advising clients, including sovereign wealth funds, on making investments, and regularly advises private equity funds in strategic investments in emerging markets. Elena Tzialli has joined Fieldfisher as a partner in the firm's London private client team. She joins from Fletcher Day, where she was a partner and head of the private client, the firm statement said. Her experience includes working with high net worth individuals and Greek Cypriot clients. DLA Piper has hired Baker McKenzie partner Andrew Mackenzie as partner and head of its litigation, arbitration and investigations practice in the Middle East. According to a firm statement, Mackenzie has been based in Dubai since 2009 and takes over the role from Henry Quinlan who has been head of the regional practice since 2013. Clyde & Co has added to its international arbitration team in Europe with the hire of Professor Loukas Mistelis, a firm statement said. He is a Professor of transnational commercial law and arbitration Queen Mary University of London, a role he will maintain alongside his partner position. Mishcon de Reya has hired Slaughter and May associate Lee Foxcroft as a real estate partner, a firm statement said. His experience includes advising on large-scale commercial real estate transactions, including high value acquisitions and disposals. His hire is the sixth partner addition for the firm in 2022. Simmons & Simmons has hired Serra Tar from Clifford Chance, a statement said. She joins Simmons as a partner in its London energy, natural resources and infrastructure team and she was most recently a senior associate at Clifford Chance, according to LinkedIn. Her experience includes advising project developers, investors and lenders in relation to all aspects of project development, among other things, the statement added. Burges Salmon has re-elected Roger Bull as its managing partner. Bull first took on the role in May 2018. He joined the firm in 1995 as a trainee solicitor, qualifying in 1997 and became a partner on 1 May 2003 and head of the firm's employment team in 2011.

Driscoll from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr have stepped in to represent Symbotic Inc., an A.I.-enabled technology platform that focuses on increasing supply chain efficiency, and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The case is 1:24-cv-07594, Roy v. Ittycheria et al.

The suit was filed Sept. 7 in Wisconsin Western District Court by Levine Eisberner LLC and Siri & Glimstad on behalf of a project manager who claims that he was wrongfully terminated after applying for a religious exemption to the defendant's COVID-19 vaccine mandate. The case, assigned to U.S. Magistrate Judge Anita Marie Boor, is 3:24-cv-00630, Secker, Nathan v. Epic Systems Corporation.

The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
